Tupperware

Tupperware, the iconic US brand that once revolutionized food storage, has filed for bankruptcy. The company that brought us those nifty airtight containers is now gasping for air itself. Tupperware's Chief Executive, Laurie Ann Goldman, broke the news, citing a "challenging macroeconomic environment" as the culprit. Translation: they couldn't keep up with the times, despite their best efforts to woo a younger crowd with snazzy new products.

Remember that brief moment during the pandemic when everyone was cooking at home and Tupperware saw a spike in sales? Yeah, that was short-lived. Since then, it's been a downhill slide. Rising costs for raw materials, higher wages, and transportation expenses have gnawed away at their profit margins like a hungry raccoon in a trash can. And let's not forget the competition—Tupperware just couldn't stand out in a sea of similar products.

Founded in 1946 by Earl Tupper, the company was a game-changer back in the day. Tupper's patented flexible airtight seal was a godsend for families who couldn't afford refrigerators. But fast forward to today, and it seems the magic has worn off. Last year, Tupperware warned it might go bust unless it could quickly raise new funds. Shares have plummeted by more than 50% this week alone.

Tupperware plans to ask the court for permission to sell the business and keep the lights on in the meantime. Whether they'll succeed or end up as a cautionary tale in business textbooks remains to be seen.

VTEX's survey reveals that 45% of U.S. consumers have engaged in live shopping, with men leading in participation. Social video commerce is also popular, especially among Gen Z and millennials.
